The Basics of Poker

poker

Poker is a game that involves two distinct pairs of cards plus one fifth card. The highest pair wins. However, if a tie occurs, the second pair takes the win. If there are no pairs, the high card breaks ties. In some cases, a person will tie with a high hand of the same type.

Pot-limit contests

In poker, pot-limit contests have a tight betting limit, and players compete to raise as much of the pot as possible before another player raises their chips. If they fail to raise in time, the pot is lost to the player who raised the most, unless the other player raises before him/her. Typically, pot-limit contests are played during poker tournaments.

Pot-limit games are played in many variations, but they all share the same basic rules. The biggest difference is the amount of money you can raise per hand. The maximum bet in a pot-limit game is four times the size of the big blind.
